The staff and board of the Public Health Council of the Upper Valley are closely monitoring developments in the novel coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). While the immediate risk of this new virus to our region is believed to be low at this time, we intend to do all we can protect the health of our members and the community and to follow the advice of NH, VT, and national public health agencies. One recent recommendation is to limit visitors to long-term care facilities, since older adults and those with chronic health conditions seemed to be at higher risk of severe illness form the virus. Since the Public Health Council occasionally meets in such settings we are considering alternative approaches to face-to-face, on-site gatherings. Therefore, it is possible in the coming weeks that scheduled meetings of the Council may be converted to virtual web-based platforms or even postponed.
